In fact, it is not uncommon to encounter error 182 – the AMD installation program cannot correctly identify AMD’s graphics hardware. Click here for more information. Sometimes there are no effective solutions for you, even if you clicked on the link to learn more.
You’re probably wondering why this AMD 182 installation error is happening to you. And while AMD Radeon software includes many drivers for various AMD hardware, it’s also natural that your AMD Auto Detect can’t find the video driver for Windows 10.
Possible Cause
The Radeon software package includes generic drivers that support a wide range of AMD Radeon graphics products. One possible reason why the Radeon Software installer could not identify your graphics hardware is that it belongs to one of these unsupported product groups :
- Built-in AMD Radeon Graphics
- Expired AMD Radeon Graphs
- Customized AMD Radeon graphics for an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) system
Uninstalling AMD Graphics Drivers
There is a good chance that the AMD Radeon driver is obsolete, corrupted, or defective and that the AMD installer cannot identify the AMD hardware. It is therefore necessary to get rid of the problematic AMD driver and install a new one for Windows 10 in order to solve this AMD driver problem.
- Open the Device Manager.
- Expand the display adapters and right-click the AMD driver to uninstall the device.
- Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features > Uninstall.
- Restart Windows 10.
Fix AMD Driver Error 182 using AMD Driver Selector
The AMD software application includes a set of generic drivers that support a variety of graphics products. However, some AMD products are not supported by the AMD software application:
- Customized AMD graphics (customized for an OEM)
- Legacy AMD Graphics (AMD products older than 5 years)
- Integrated AMD graphics
If your particular graphics card solution falls into one of the above categories, it is very likely that the update software will not be able to update your driver because it belongs to an unsupported product group.
If this is true, your only way to update the driver is to use the AMD driver selector to find and download the appropriate driver. Here is a quick guide on how to use this web tool to download and install the latest version of your driver:
- Open your default browser and click this link (here) to access the AMD Driver Selector utility.
- Once inside, skip the download section and scroll down to the section below and search for your graphics card solution using the search bar or manually select your GPU product using the menu below. Once the appropriate product is selected, click “Submit” and wait for the results to be generated.
- Once the results are generated, click on the Drivers tab at the top of the page and expand the drop-down menu for the operating system you are using. Then click on the “Download” button and wait for the process to complete.
- Once the download is complete, open the installation executable file and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the driver update.
- Once the installation is complete, restart your computer to complete the driver installation.
