Apple seeds first betas of iOS 13.7 and iPadOS 13.7 to developers

While iOS 14 is currently being beta tested, Apple is also beta seeding an upcoming update for iOS 13 and iPadOS 13.

Apple on Wednesday seeded the first beta of iOS 13.7 to developers, focusing on Exposure Notification, the API that’s designed to help stop the spread of the novel coronavirus. Apple developed the technology with the help of Google. With the new software to iOS 13.7, Apple is no longer making it a requirement to download an app released by a local public health authority to use Exposure Notification.

Per the update, Apple is making it possible to take advantage of the Exposure Notification API without the previous requirement of downloading an app. However, the company does note that “system availability depends on support from your local public health authority”. Basically, this is making it easier for iOS users to be made aware of a supported app in your region. An app is still required to use Exposure Notification, though.

As said in the release notes, iOS 13.7 also includes general bug fixes for the iPhone.

iPadOS 13.7 is also available in its first beta for developers as well. This software doesn’t support Exposure Notification, so this prerelease software is for bug fixes and performance improvements.

Registered developers can download and install the latest beta now.
