I feel like everything we watch nowadays is from Netflix. Today, I am going to tell you about one of the first Netflix originals, House of Cards. The series features a political crime thriller story set in Washington, D.C. Beau Willimon played the creator of the show based on a Micheal Dobbs’ novel. The question here is why am I talking about House of Cards now? Is there a new season coming up? Is it cancelled? To get the answers, continue to read.

House of Cards Season 7: Release Date

The series made its debut on 1 February 2013 on the streaming giant Netflix. From then on House of Cards continued to run for six subsequent seasons. It concluded with the final episode of season 6 on 2 November 2018. The series was supposed to continue with the seventh season but was closed with the sixth one due to some reasons (discussed in next part). The ratings of House of Cards was getting worse as the seasons progressed. The first season got a lot of positive reviews from the viewers, but the last one received negative reviews. Streamer cancelled the series, but the reason was not solely the reviews.

House of Cards Season 7: Reason for Cancellation

The main reason behind the cancellation of the series was the allegations on the leading actor Kevin Spacey. He was accused of sexual assault by a co-cast: Anthony Hopkins, 14 at the time, alleged Spacey for the same. After this, Netflix removed Spacey even when he was the lead in the series. Robin Wright, who played his wife took his place as the lead for the sixth season which turned out to be the last one. Well, the story arc of the sixth season is worth some praise as it changed at the very end and still managed to give a decent conclusion.

House of Cards Season 7: Storyline

Well, the story initially focuses on a cunning (in a wrong way) and ruthless man Frank Underwood. He aspires to be the President of the United States, and to achieve his goal; he does everything he thinks is right. (Here, everything means “everything”.) In the first and second season, he murdered two people and at last sworn himself as the President. The third season is all politics between Russia and America which makes a crack in Frank’s married life. The next season features the internal conflict of Frank Underwood and his wife, Claire Hale as they try to drag each other down. In doing so, the former gets involved in an assassination event, getting shot and in desperate need of a kidney transplant. The couple thinks better of themselves and reconciles.

The fifth season was somewhat of a roller coaster ride to the viewers, including a lot of twists. In the end, we see Frank quit as the President while Claire took over the control and denied Frank the behind the scenes power play. And we are all aware of what happened in the sixth season. Frank is dead, and Claire is now the President of the country. Stream the show on Netflix to get the whole story. The thrill must go on, try watching Gone by VOX studios.
