Our friends over at Nomad today announced a new addition to their popular Base Station wireless charging line. It’s called the Base Station Pro, and in addition to the usual good looks, it offers something not found in many charging pads these days: position-less, full-surface wireless charging.
The Base Station Pro uses a matrix of 18 coils that allows you to simultaneously charge up to 3 devices anywhere. It also features a beautiful modern design with a slim profile and padded leather surface, can wireless charge any Qi device at up to 7.5w speed, and it’s powered by a 30W USB-C PD.
From Nomad’s website:
Proprietary FreePower™ algorithms rapidly locate your device, creating virtual coils directly under your phone or other Qi enabled device. This is accomplished by 18 dedicated charging coils that intelligently work together to form an electromagnetic coupling to your device’s power receiver.
[…] Just like our leather, this software gets better with time. Easily stay updated with our Mac and Windows app as we continually improve the algorithms to make Base Station Pro charge faster and more efficiently.
As you’ve probably noticed, there’s been no mention of Apple Watch. That’s because Apple Watch doesn’t charge via Qi, meaning the Base Station Pro doesn’t support it. The team does say, however, that they are working on a solution that would support the wearable, slated for some time in 2021.
The Base Station Pro is available for pre-order today for $229, and it’ll begin shipping next month.
