Imagine someone stalking you always. Can you feel the dread, the horror, the sheer chill down your spine? Well, that’s the premise of You. Developed by Greg Berlanti and Sara Gamble for Netflix, the web series is an adaptation of Caroline Kepnes’ novel of the same name. Debuting in September 2018, the crime thriller has two seasons so far. And, the second season premiered on 26 December 2019. Plus, each season of the series contains ten episodes. Although Lifetime aired the first season, Netflix acquired the rights for the series from season two onwards.
With more than 90 million viewers, ‘You’ is one of Netflix’s most popular offerings. The series also received a very positive response from critics. Furthermore, it boasts a vast and loyal fanbase among the audience.
If we consider the immense popularity of the series, a renewal was only a matter of time. And, in January this year, Netflix officially renewed it for a third season. Additionally, the streaming giants announced that the psychological thriller would drop sometime next year. However, Covid-19 has affected the production of all upcoming releases, and ‘You’ is not an exception. So, at the moment, we expect the new season to air in late 2021 or early 2022. Still, we await an official confirmation in line with it.
About the cast, we now know that Penn Badgley will return as the serial killer/stalker, Joe Goldberg. Of course, he won’t be alone, as the makers have confirmed the reappearance of Victoria Pedretti as Love Quinn. Apart from them, however, we don’t know much. Still, we assume that Robin Lord Taylor will again feature as Will. Others, including Jenna Ortega (Ellie Alves), and James Scully (Forty Quinn) may make their return as well. We also think that Love’s friends, such as Melanie Field (Sunrise), Charlie Barnett (Gabe), will also reprise their roles.
The last season saw Joe and Love become a couple who are expecting a child. And all things seemed to point at a happily ever after ending. However, that won’t be the case with You. Season two heavily implied that Joe wasn’t content with his relationship with Love. Also, fans saw him starting to become obsessed with a new neighbour. So, in season three, Joe will be back to his old killing and stalking ways. And the new chapter will also explore the changes in Joe and Love’s romance.
Also, there’s the matter of Love’s yet to be born child’s father. Fan theories doubt that Joe is the father. Instead, they claim that it’s a result of Milo and Love’s affair. For now, we believe that the new season will answer this and all the other questions.
‘You’ is a crime drama/ psychological thriller series. It revolves around Joe, a serial killer who becomes obsessed with strangers. He also tries to pursue a toxic romantic relationship with them. The first season follows Joe’s infatuation with Beck. And in season two, he repeats the same pattern with a woman named Love. All the while, he kills various people in pursuit of his romance.
Usually, trailers of Netflix shows release a few months before the season premiere. Thus, we presume the promo to drop sometime next year. For more on this, stay tuned.
